Information You Submit
A name, location, or other term entered into a third-party search tool passes to the provider that operates that tool. We do not store or log those search terms on our own systems. Search providers decide what they collect and how long they keep it, so their privacy terms should be reviewed before submitting a query.
An email or contact-form message is retained as needed to answer it. We do not share that message outside the organization unless the sender asks us to do so or disclosure is required by law.
Automatic Technical Data
Normal web operations may collect basic technical and usage data when a page loads:
- Internet Protocol address
- Browser name and version
- Device type and operating system
- Pages visited and time spent on them
- Referring website, when supplied
- Date and time stamps
Cookies help measure site use and support features. Visitors can block cookies through browser settings, though some parts of the site may then behave differently.
How Information Is Used
Collected information supports a small set of operating needs:
- Keeping pages available and responsive
- Sending a submitted search to the selected partner
- Learning which Taylor County resources visitors use
- Finding and correcting technical faults
- Displaying advertising that may reflect stated interests
Other Websites and Advertising
Links can lead to WVDCR, Taylor County courts, release records, federal locators, and outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's own privacy policy controls. We are not responsible for its collection or security practices.
Some advertising partners may measure activity across different websites to select ads. That tracking occurs through their systems, not through a Taylor County government system operated here.
Parties That May Receive Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may still be handled by:
- Search partners processing a submitted query
- Analytics services measuring page use
- Advertising networks delivering ads
- Law enforcement or another government body acting under a valid legal order
West Virginia public-record access is governed separately, including by Chapter 29B where it applies. This privacy notice does not alter what an official custodian may release or withhold.
Reasonable Security Measures
We use standard safeguards suited to a public information website. No internet-connected service can promise complete security, however, and no system is guaranteed to prevent every breach or unauthorized act.
Visitors Under Eighteen
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. A parent or guardian who believes a minor sent personal information may use the Contacts page to request deletion.
Your Privacy Choices
Subject to applicable law and a verifiable request, a visitor may ask for a copy of personal data we hold, correction of inaccurate data, deletion, or an opt-out from certain processing. Browser settings can also limit cookies. These rights concern data held by this private site and do not erase a WVDCR, court, sheriff, or other government record.
Changes to This Notice
This notice may be revised as site practices or legal duties change. A revised version takes effect when posted here with its new effective date.
