Taylor Sheriff Release Role
The Taylor County Sheriff is a local law-enforcement and process office. It can create arrest, incident, warrant-execution, and transportation records. It is not the operator of a separate adult county jail identified by the official facility sweep. Adult detention is regionalized through WVDCR, and Tygart Valley Regional Jail and Correctional Facility serves Taylor County from Randolph County.
This division of work matters after an arrest. The sheriff record can establish the initial law-enforcement event and transport. WVDCR owns the confinement, facility movement, and release transaction after admission to the regional jail. A magistrate or circuit court owns the bond, dismissal, judgment, sentence, or other order that authorizes the change. No single office necessarily holds the whole chain.

Trace Taylor Sheriff Custody
Begin with enough identifiers to prevent a false match: full name, spelling variants, approximate date of birth, arrest date, OID or booking number, and court case number. Search the WVDCR Regional Jail side of OIS for a local arrest. A current TVRJCF match supports present regional-jail custody at the time of the result. It does not show a future release date.
If no match appears, check the court file and ask WVDCR for the movement or release record. Absence can reflect release, transfer, timing, or a query error. A DOC search is appropriate after a prison sentence or jail-to-prison transfer. A federal or ICE locator is an exception path only when case or detainer facts point there.
- Obtain the sheriff incident or arrest identifier when available.
- Search the WVDCR regional-jail system and record the time checked.
- Locate the Taylor court case and request the controlling order.
- Ask WVDCR for the actual release or movement transaction.
- Confirm the receiving system when the event was a custodial transfer.
Taylor Sheriff Record Requests
Direct the request according to record ownership. Ask the Sheriff’s Office for a report it created, such as the arrest report, incident report, process return, or transport record. Identify a date range, person, incident number, and desired format. Do not ask the sheriff to certify a WVDCR release transaction it did not create.
For the regional-jail episode, write to WVDCR’s FOIA Coordinator. A useful request seeks admission date and time, facility, movement or release date and time, release method, authority, court docket, and destination category. The destination should distinguish community release from transfer to prison or another custodian. Invite redaction of exempt parts and ask for the remaining public electronic record.

West Virginia FOIA requires a response choice within the statutory period and permits actual reproduction cost. The law does not require an office to create a new analysis. Ask for named existing records and request an estimate before copies are made.
Taylor Court Release Orders
Taylor Magistrate Court handles misdemeanors, bail, and preliminary felony work. Circuit Court is the felony court of record and supplies judgments, sentences, and later modifications. The statewide Magistrate Record Search can help identify a case, but it does not provide the actual document. The clerk must supply copies under the Judiciary’s process.
A bond entry or release order establishes legal authority. It may not be the physical release time. Jail staff still process the event, and another warrant or detainer can cause continued custody. Match the order with the WVDCR transaction. In a felony case, both the Magistrate and Circuit files may be needed because the case passes through stages.

Taylor Release Record Meanings
“Released” is not one outcome. Bond can return a person to the community while the case remains open. Dismissal or acquittal must be shown by the final court disposition. Time served and sentence completion require the judgment plus any credit calculation. Probation follows a court order. A state-prison transfer continues WVDCR custody, while an ICE or federal handoff continues custody under a different authority.
- Bond release
- Departure under bond terms while the criminal case can continue.
- Time served
- A sentence resolved by credited custody time as ordered and calculated.
- Detainer
- A hold that can block community release or cause transfer.
- Probation
- Court-ordered community supervision, separate from parole.
- Discharge
- End of the sentence or supervision status documented by the proper agency.
Keep arrest language apart from conviction language. An arrest record documents an accusation and law-enforcement event. The disposition states how the court resolved the case. Release alone does not supply that final outcome.
Taylor Sheriff Search Risks
No official Taylor County 24-hour or 72-hour release list, sheriff jail app, or released-person gallery was found in the August 2026 official sweep. The WVDCR “Daily Incarcerations” product is an admissions summary. It cannot be relabeled as a list of people who left custody. Nor is there a verified window stating how long a released detainee remains visible online.
A separate search risk comes from the county name. Results for taylorsheriff.org belong to Taylor County, Florida, not Taylor County, West Virginia. Use the official West Virginia Taylor County sheriff page and WVDCR sources. A polished result from the wrong state is still the wrong record.
VINE can provide a status notification for a participating WVDCR record, but it is not the sheriff’s app and is not a certified archive. Preserve the agency, event wording, and time, then seek the underlying court and WVDCR documents.
Confirm Taylor Community Release
A sound release finding follows a chain. First record the last confirmed custody. Next locate the court authority. Then obtain the agency transaction and classify the destination. Finally, identify any parole, probation, or other ongoing supervision. Leaving the regional jail does not always mean leaving custody, and leaving physical custody does not always mean the sentence has ended.
When records disagree, keep each observation with its date and time. Do not overwrite an earlier result. The Sheriff’s Office, WVDCR, and the courts may update on different schedules because they record different parts of the process. Ask the agency that owns the transaction to reconcile the movement.
Taylor Arrest Record Timeline
A Taylor arrest timeline begins with the sheriff incident or process date, transport destination, WVDCR commitment, first court action, bond decision, disposition, and actual release or transfer. This sequence prevents an arrest entry from being mistaken for a final case outcome. It also shows which office owns each event.
A misdemeanor may remain in Magistrate Court. A felony can begin there and move to Circuit Court. Ask both clerks when the stage is unclear. The complaint, bond order, judgment, sentence, and later custody order answer different questions. Request the named documents rather than asking a clerk to research the entire history.
The sheriff transport record can identify TVRJCF when a name search fails. Yet transport back to Taylor can be for court, not release. Read the stated purpose. WVDCR’s admission and movement records determine the custody transaction after the sheriff completes transport.
Before requesting records, assemble the full name, aliases, birth date, incident number, arrest date, case number, and known facility. State whether the request concerns a sheriff-created report, a WVDCR stay, or a court order. Ask for electronic copies and keep any response or exemption explanation.
If a record is partly exempt, request the nonexempt remainder. Juvenile, sealed, and expunged material may be restricted. A public absence can reflect lawful access limits, not proof that no arrest or confinement occurred. Never rebuild restricted material from stale copies.
Taylor Release Evidence Chain
For bond, combine the order with WVDCR’s release time. For time served, use the judgment and credit record. For dismissal, obtain the final disposition. For prison transfer, move from RJA to DOC records. For a federal or ICE handoff, identify the receiving authority.
VINE can corroborate a WVDCR event but cannot replace the agency record. Record each source’s “as of” time. If facts remain uncertain, describe the last confirmed custody and unresolved next step rather than declaring release.
The West Virginia court access page routes the legal-order search, and WVDCR Policy 142.00 identifies release fields. The Taylor County search and records hub joins those sources with the sheriff record.
